London Calligrapher, Kate Ridyard
I am a London calligrapher and teacher based in Richmond upon Thames. My portfolio includes an extensive list of commissions for advertising, brand design and packaging, as well as bespoke commissions and commemorative pieces for special occasions.
As the go-to calligrapher for Petersham Nurseries, I collaborate on many of their luxurious and elegant weddings and events, while also crafting much of the marketing material for Petersham Nurseries in both Richmond and Covent Garden.
With an initial degree in Graphic Design, I further honed my craft by studying Calligraphy & Bookbinding at The Roehampton Institute (now University of Roehampton) where I was trained by world-renowned calligraphers, artists and craftspeople. These studies covered all aspects of the art, from analysing historical scripts to mastering traditional techniques used by mediaeval scribes, such as quill cutting, illumination and gilding with gold leaf.
I bring a highly personal touch to weddings and events, often weaving watercolour botanical illustrations into my designs From save-the-dates and invitations to place cards, table plans and venue decor, I create bespoke, handcrafted pieces that are tailored to each occasion.
