The beauty of gold and colour has been appreciated for centuries and we are still in awe of the stunning manuscripts produced by mediaeval scribes and illuminators. I was lucky to have been taught on a course where we learned the techniques used by mediaeval scribes including illumination and gilding with gold leaf. I continue to regularly work with gold leaf to create my own ‘illuminated’ letters.
